This
year, Expanded Learning is offering a once-in-a-lifetime trip to
Cuba! On this amazing trip, Cuba will fill up your senses with opportunities
to see, hear, smell taste and feel an intoxicating array of experiences.
Due to her natural beauty, much of what we will see can only be
seen in Cuba. Due to her unique cultural/political situation, much
of what we will experience can only be experienced now!!! |
|
|
|
We
will see for ourselves why, upon landing, Christopher Columbus exclaimed,
Esta es la tierra más bella que humanos han visto. "This
is the most beautiful land that human eyes have ever seen."
We will see
Varadero Beach, so breathtakingly beautiful that it is known as
one of the most famous in the world. Aqua waters wash on white
sand, and the shades of pink to lavender coral seem to reflect
the sky at dusk.
|
Another
sight for appreciative eyes is the Spanish / colonial / Caribbean
architecture of Old Havana. You will see the Teatro Nacional (where
with luck, we will enjoy a ballet), Hemingway's and other mansions
grand old hotels, and Cuba's first building in 1552.
At Valle Viñales
we will see how nature has graced this island in a totally different
way. Here, red-orange Famboyan trees blend with verdant greens
and rich tobacco fields. The natives say that this is a very spiritual
place.
|
|
|
Everywhere
there is music. Just listen carefully to the delightful musical
Cuban intonation and you will find yourself broadening the range
of Spanish accents that you can understand. As you engage in conversation
with these hospitable, kind oand patient people, you may hear yourself
using new words like "uaua".
Listen with
your heart to the conga, the rumba, and the salsa. You will hear
a blend of Latin, African, and Caribbean rhythms. You will also
hear a rare exuberance and zest for life that resounds throughout
the country.
|
It
is said that the sense of smell is the strongest carrier of memories.
Perhaps this is why the aroma of a Havana cigar, roasting Cuban
coffee, or black bean soup brings such nostalgia to those who had
to leave. Our memories of these and many others and the taste of
a heavenly home-cooked meal is guaranteed to have us longing to
return.

Feel
why Ernest Hemingway, always searching to experience the most robust,
lustiest and juiciness that life has to offer, chose to settle in
Cuba. Like Hemingway, we will have the opportunity to feel the power
and majesty of this magnificent land and know how he was inspired
to write books such as The Old Man and the Sea. |
